hunger and thirst

I am not content to grow slowly.

I have been reading a lot of good books recently — Running Scared (Welch), Reason for God (Keller), Crazy Love (Chan), Forgotten God (Chan), Growing Up Christian (Graustein) — and I’ve been filling up daily on God’s eternal word… he is so good.  He has brought me back to the light and I am so grateful.  I can’t help but fill up on him!  But sometimes a little voice in my head says, slow down… you should process this all more… you don’t need to grow in God so fast…

And that’s where I stop it, I know it’s a lie.  Because I DO need to grow in God so fast!  It is urgent that we draw as near to Him as possible, as soon as possible!  There is NO WAY I’m going to take my time finding his heart!

Don’t you understand, dear one?  He is so important!  When we mosey along we are missing the point!  His love for you is deeper than any thought you’ve ever touched with your small mind, and how else can we respond than in lives of love and praise for him?

Listen… we cannot just pray “Lord, stir up a fire in me!” No, a relationship with God is a two way street.  When we do not seek out God, we will not find him!  I cannot rest with twenty minutes a day and a couple hours on Sunday… no!  I must seek him!  He is all my happiness. And when I do seek him — I FIND HIM, arms open, waiting to receive me!

So no, I am not content to grow slowly.  I want to be filled with his Spirit all the time so I can be filled even more!

God, empower us with your Spirit!  Keep us reminded of your overarching purpose for life, of your love for us and our return love for you.  Help us remember you are near.  Give us power and increase it!  Speak through us and do great things for us!  Draw us near to you in ways we cannot imagine!  Help us to seek you more!
